November Volunteer Spotlight

Annie Mehlhaff grew up in a big family in western South Dakota, where she learned early on the importance of community and caring for others. Her professional career was dedicated to public service with state government in Pierre, where she spent the majority of her years working for the Legislative Research Council. This experience gave her deep insight into how systems work and how to navigate them effectively—skills that will serve her well in her volunteer work.

Before marriage and children, Annie opened her heart and home as a foster mother, providing care and stability to children in need. This meaningful experience shaped her understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable youth. Her commitment to making a difference in children's lives continues through her work as a CASA volunteer, where she brings both compassion and expertise.

Today, Annie lives next to the Missouri River with her husband Jim and enjoys the natural beauty of the Pierre area through camping and boating. She's an avid reader, a really bad golfer, and treasures time spent with friends, family, and especially their two grown children.
