Volunteer Spotlight

Kalene Thompson

Community: Pierre

Kalene has lived in Pierre all her life, except 2 years when she lived in Texas. She works full-time with Pierre School District as a Special Education Tutor and part-time at Avera St. Mary's. She is passionate about helping others and spreading kindness whenever possible. Kalene loves to spend time with loved ones, reading, decorating, and cooking/baking. Her favorite movie is currently the Harry Potter series. Her favorite book is Wonder by R.J. Palacio.

Kalene became a CASA Volunteer because she strongly believes that children should have a voice in anything that happens in their lives at any age.

Kalene says CASA volunteer training “was very eye opening. To see just how young a child can be affected by bad situations in the home, even when a child is just months old in the crib, listening to these situations can affect their response to traumatic experiences later in life.”

She is looking forward to, hopefully, witnessing a positive life-changing case for a child and being a part of a successful story for a family.
